As a modern means of education, based on computer network technologies and information science, E-learning has become rapidly developed and prevailingly applied. Personalized learning techniques are the major focus of E-learning study. In personalized learning, importance is attached to heterogeneous learning requirements and features of individual learners. Traditional E-learning study mainly involves intelligent tutoring, learner model adaptation and characteristic analysis of learning behavior, which are all aimed to enhance the capacity of system. The learners themselves, however, are neglected, for their subjectivity in learning process is ignored. That is why quite a few existing personalized learning systems present learners with inflexible guides and they surly cannot satisfy learners'varying requirements.This project at its first stage analyzes the personalized learning system requirements for learning resource environment, constructs a knowledge system with the help of applied ontology techniques, and provides an ontological solution to the problems in the practical application of domain ontology, including low flexibility, low reusability, and difficulty in domain crossing. Thanks to applied ontology, the knowledge system within E-learning frame is successfully constructed, learning resources are effectively organized, and consequently a favorable resource environment is supplied for personalized E-learning. By means of applied ontology, teachers, when preparing learning materials for learners, can optionally design required knowledge structure, choose needed learning resources and associate the chosen resources with the ontology.On the basis of learning resources organized with applied ontology, a personalized learning solution is developed at the following stage of the project. In a relaxed personalized learning resource environment, learns themselves determine their own learning contents and learning styles. Meanwhile, the system records their learning process and performances, and extracts effective learning strategies as helpful references for other learners. This solution is theoretically capable of boundlessly expanding the reservoir of learning strategies so as to meet the needs of diverse learners and also provides assistant functions to help teachers design learning strategies for reference.
