With the rapid development of computer technology, open NC systems of various degrees have emerged and grown fast. At present, it is gradually developed to standardized open system. Compared with foreign countries, there is large distance and the backward of functional parts of NC machine tools has limited the integrated development of NC technology of our country. Therefore, it is of great necessity to provide timely and reliable matching products for the NC industry of our country. Based on demand of realistic application, the paper develops matching products of portable NC programmer for new NC system. From the engineering point of view and with real example of the undertaken project of NC system matching products of portable NC programmer, the paper analyzed the design principle and implementation of NC programmer. Firstly, the paper introduces the development and condition of national NC system programmer and the technical characteristics and predominance of the present programmer. Then, according to the design principle of open modularization, single-chip based hardware and software of portable NC programmer with serial communication technique are designed. Finally, the main functions of the software are introduced in detail: design and implementation technique of text edit, compile processing, file management, serial communication, keyboard processing and LCD screen. The programmer discussed in this paper has been manufactured to real products and used for low-class economic NC system or improvement of NC normal machine tools. Fine effects and virtual value have gained have gained in real tests, and it is worth for practicability and popularization and application.
