Multimedia Whiteboard System And Its Application In Distance Education

With the fast development of web technology, network has become an indispensable way to people's communication in the modern society. The continuous development and combination of Distributed Object Technology and Multimedia Technology supplies a new way of communication and create an environment for communicating, discussing and cooperating for the people from different places. It is widely used in the education field because of its real-time, interactive, general, and similar kinds of advantages.In recently years, the mode of modern remote education based on Internet becomes more and more popular. On the basis of knowing the current development of remote education home and abroad, this paper combines the distributed technology and the teaching mode of modern remote education, a multimedia whiteboard was designed and implemented, with which to conduct real-time teaching. This system uses the two-way active principle as the guideline, employing the flexible remote calling of RMI and the distributed object technology of callback, and tries to make the both modes, real-time teaching and discussing cooperatively, come true.This paper designs and implements the real-time collaboration of multimedia whiteboard detailed based on the combination of RMI and the dynamic technology integrated into Applet. It mainly implements the text whiteboard, graph whiteboard, the real-time transferring and sharing of audio and video, etc. During the course of applying the multimedia whiteboard into remote education system, this paper put more emphasis on the research of the controlling of questioning, which manages the procedure of questioning in real-time teaching effectively. It makes the remote communication and cooperating for teachers with students, students with students come true. Meanwhile, it provides a good teaching and communicating platform for both teachers and students.The multimedia whiteboard presented in this paper saves the text whiteboard and graph whiteboard at the same time and avoids of the problems of speed and management that the separate save suffers, which is also a notable feature of this paper. Besides, because the implementation of the remote teaching system is based on the Web Server and RMI application Server that makes the system flexible, compatible and operational, and also makes the both concentrate on the specific role and function. The teaching environment built with open and cooperation plays important role in exerting the advantage of current education resources and implementing the reasonably deployment of resources.
