The optimization of production planning of the cold-rolling process can improve the quality of steel strip, increase production efficiency, avoid the manual influences to the production planning, and lighten the working intensity of planning maker. Therefore, it has been paid a more attention by cold-rolling enterprises.Taking the cold-rolling plant of BaoSteel Corporation as the background, after the description of the cold-rolling technology, the merging coils operaion in the cold-rolling process is studied. This problem can be classified as a combination optimization problem, and it is very difficult to get the global optimal solution for the combination optimization problem by using the general mathematical programming method. In this paper, the model of intelligent merging coils is built, and the basic concept of the partheno-genectic algorithm is introduced. Then the introduction of the design to genetic algorithm library based on the proposed model is given. For the sake of the general use and expensibility of the algorithm library, the algorithm uses the technique of packing all the general functions in the abstract base class, deriving classes that can be instanced to different uses, then an introduction of the main base classes and derived classes is given.The development of an optimized planning system for cold-rolling process is introduced in this paper, which fulfills the actual needs. This system is based on the B/S structure, and adoptes the .NET technology. The genetic algorithm library is made as a dynamic-link library (DLL) and is embedded in C# context, while the customer interface of this system is written by language C#. Using DLL solves the linking problem between the two different program languages. It is also very convenient to maintain the whole system. If the cold-rolling constraints change, it needs to change the algorithm accordingly. This can be done only by recompiling the algorithm library without recompiling the other codes parts included in the graphic user interface. The last of this paper introduces the structure of the whole system, functional modules and the adopted databasae techniques. This system has been applied in Baosteel cold-rolling plant in April 2006 and archives the satisfied effects.
