As a typical equipment of integration of mechanical, electronic and optic technologies, laser engraving machine has the characteristics of great efficiency, high precision and non-touching processing. It uses laser beam to irradiate the surface of materials to engrave. While laser beam moves relatively to the workpiece, the engraving is accomplished. Hollow-core transmitting energy fibers are adopted to replace traditional optical reflectors to transmit laser beam. Thus, engraving scope is extended, maintainability is enhanced, and wonderful effects can be achieved.Special software to deal with graphics and images are used to make proper design as the first step of engraving. Then, these graphics and images are disposed to control the whole system finishing the engraving. Disposing software is designed in allusion to popular file formats considering universality because there is no existing software.The main research works are as follows:(1)Computer programs are written to dispose PLT files in order to achieve two-dimension graphical engraving.(2)Computer programs are written to dispose STL file format. This program can stratify STL file into layers; each layer is saved as PLT file format. Then, this series of PLT files are managed to achieve three-dimension engraving.(3)Computer programs are written to achieve grey-scale transformation, image enhancement and geometric transformation of BMP files to engrave images.(4)Computerized embroidery machine is improved based on the laser engraving system. Through modification of DST files, embroidery and cutout can be done at one time.
