The Design And Implementation Of Thematic Learning Exchange Platform Based On Smart Client

Most traditional teaching modes are becoming increasingly incompatible with contemporary society's demand for qualified personnel, because they adopt the collective approach, are teacher-centered, and do not focus on the students' personality development.The new era calls for new teaching methods, therefore educational reform is imperative. Gaiven such situation, thematic learning as a new form of teaching has caught more and more attention gradually.Thematic learning, which focuses on a wide range of interesting disciplinary, social or life themes, makes technology emdeded as tools in learning process. In thematic learning, students will understand the themes thoroughly with information collecting and processing, problem solving and active exploring. Thematic learning integrates disciplinary knowledge, learning and society, learning and students themselves as well. Thematic learning can cultivate advanced thinking ability, problem solving abilities, and promote learning transfer.With the thematic learning model deeply accepted, effective exchange in the thematic learning process is urgently needed. At present, in addition to the traditional means (face-to-face exchange, correspondence, etc.) the computer network is another approach to effective exchange in thematic learning. Because threr are no constraints of time and space, the latter approach has a good prospect of development.This paper is intended to discuss the exchange approaches in the context of computer networks, and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of the two approaches (thin client and thick client) used most frequently. I designed and implement a new exchange platform based on smart client (Changyou Thematic Learning Exchange Platform) according to the characteristics of thematic learning.
