Distributed Optical-fiber Sensor (DOFS) based on Brillouin scattering is now drawing more and more attention. In this dissertation, we introduced the principle and applications of Brillouin-scattering based distributed sensor system Besides this, two important Brillouinscattering distributed sensing system-BOTDR (Brillouin Optical Tmie-domainReflectometry) and BOTDA (Brillouin Optical Time-domain Analyzer) were specially emphasized.Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) can be modeled by a three-wave transient equation. We first derived this equation from Maxwell wave equations. Using a numerical algorithm, we solved this equation and simulated this process on Matlab 6.5.Analyzing the characteristics of the Brillouin back scattering signal, we used the Morlet Wavelet Transform as a scheme for the Brillouin scattering signal processing. This scheme can be used for detecting the envelope of the signal and lowering the noises of the signal. Then we used Stratix chip to realize this scheme on FPGA. After designing the FFT block, which was the most important block of the scheme, we finished the hardware design of the scheme.
