In this paper, the theory and the design of beam forming array antennas are discussed.Firstly, the emphases and difficulties in design of array antennas are indicated after the analysis of the index; the Method of Moment (MOM) used in the study of microstrip antenna unit is introduced; the theory and the design method of low-side lobe and beam forming antennas are presented.Secondly, a line-arrayed antenna with thaler exposure and a cosec-beam-forming line antenna are designed based on the theoretic study. The design of the target antenna begins with applying the knowledge of the above two antennas.Thirdly, an analysis on the allowed error of the level and plumb direction is undertaken. Application of genetic algorithms on the optimization is put forward, which lower the side lobe on the condition of ensure of the gain.Finally, some new schemes are introduced to the genetic algorithms to overcome the genetic-excursion, and which are also applied on the optimization of multi-peak solutions successfully.
