Since the three-dimensional (3D) digital information measurement technology integrates optics, machine, electricity and computer science together, the 3D surface information of an object can be transferred into digital signals quickly, which can be used in manufacturing and machining fields directly. For the requiring about surface digital 3D model reconstruction in reverse engineering, the 3D laser optical measuring system and its calibrating technology are studied.The summary for 3D surface measurement technology is given, so that the reason of the choice of my research topic is shown. Based on the analysis results for the other optical measurement methods, the approach of the linear structure-light optical measurement based on computer vision and optical triangulation is studied. A novel hardware configuration of optical sensor is designed, the relative principle and setup about the presented system are shown, for further improving system performance, a dynamic adjusting scheme is provided. The system error is analyzed.Calibration is one of the key technologies of the linear structure-light optical sensor, based on the analyses and comparison of various optical models and calibration approaches, taking account of the affection from lens distortion, pinhole camera model is taken as optical model. The developed calibration approach consists of getting calibrated points and solving the parameters of sensor model. Based on the Tsai's two-stage method, a novel calibration scheme is presented, which characteristic points from the laser optical plane and the manipulator of robot is taken as calibration point, and using presented linear two-stages method, the model parameters are solved.
