The construction of the next generation Internet must be supported by high performance core routers, and Integrated IS-IS(I-IS-IS) is one of the most important routing protocols to provide high performance route choice for routers. This thesis did research on the key issues which the extensible functions of IS-IS routing protocol are implemented in IPv6 based on "The Base Platform and Experimental System of High performance IPv4/v6 Router", which is subject to China's 863 plan. And the issue of router fast-smoothly restart was analyzed deeply which seriously effected the high-performance running of IS-IS protocol. Finally the design and implementation of IS-IS software was accomplished. The main contributions of this thesis were as follows:i) Did research on the key issues which will be faced with when to implement IS-IS routing protocol from the point of view of high performance Terabit router design, such as stability, fast-convergence, fault look-over and so on. And the solutions and design consideration were given to resolve these problems According to these issues.ii) Did analyze the effect to the IS-IS protocol performance during router halt&restart, and did research fully on the existing IS-IS restart process. Based on them, a system resolvent was given that answered the I-IS-IS network router fast-smooth restart: the Dual-RP transfer mechanism to implement the network Nonstop Forwarding(NSF), the dispersion and group algorithm to prevent LSP retransfer block and the Bidirectional Forwarding Detection mechanism to implement the function of fast-finding network fault. And the exponential back-off algorithm was proved effectively to implement it's function showed by the performance emulate experiment of the algorithm.iii) Did put forward the Priority Queue with Multiple Virtual Threads in the design and implementation of I-IS-IS protocol, and did optimize some modules of I-IS-IS protocol software packet, which made it more easily to implement the IS-IS protocol, and raise the performance of the protocol.iv) Did design the testing project the emulate of algorithm, the IS-IS protocol consistency and performance by using the Terabit router as the test platform, and do analyze the result of the test.
