Research On Distributed Channel Access Mechanism In Wireless LAN

The main content of this paper is distributed competitive channel access mechanism of wireless LAN. First it introduces the history and development of the 802.11 wireless LAN and the latest development of its protocol. After this there is a detailed briefing on a variety of channel access mechanisms of 802.11 and 802.11e. This section highlight the unique nature of the wireless LAN and its channel access method, focus on the Distributed competitive channel access mechanism. On the basis of above this paper analysis the property and application area of distributed competitive channel access and centralized non-competitive channel access mechanism, and came to a conclusion that the future trend is distributed competitive channel access mechanism. The DCF and EDCA mechanism of MAC layer in wireless LAN is implemented using C++, the difference of their performances are simulated and analyses by software, and the packet drop rate and delay curves in various application environments are published in this paper. Meanwhile based on the information available, the paper analysis the defects of current distributed competitive channel access mechanism, and give the solution to these problems. These solutions are tested through software simulation, the corresponding simulation results are also given in this paper.
