With the rapid development of medicine, computer science, image processing and so on, Computer Aided Surgery (CAS) has been given more and more attention in the field of modern surgery research. Image Guided Surgery(IGS)is an important application of CAS. It can help doctors to choose the best surgery path and reduce the surgery damage. And it can also improve the success rate of surgery and realize convenient operation and minimal invasiveness to surgery. In this paper, IGS system and its two key technologies: spatial registration and spatial transform are researched. Firstly, the software and hardware components of IGS system are illustrated. And the key components of the system are expatiated in detail. Compared with traditional stereo-tactic navigation methods, the passive infrared-optical stereo-tactic navigation system is chosen to obtain 3-D coordinate and quaternion information of patients, due to its high accuracy. Secondly, Coordinate Scale Calculation is introduced into the spatial registration technology to efficiently realize Scale-Calculation based Feature Point-Set Spatial Registration. Satisfactory registration results can be obtained using such method. Finally, since only coordinate transformation is performed in common spatial transformation algorithm, Quaternion-Based Orientation Information is introduced into the algorithm. The coordinate transformation and orientation transformation can be performed simultaneously among the operation space, reference space and virtual 3-D image space, which helps doctors to observe the position and pose of operation tools more clearly. The spatial registration and spatial transformation algorithms proposed in this paper have been applied to the Galileo IGS System of Accurad Technology Ltd. Co. Compared with traditional methods, lesions and surgery tools information can be shown on 3-D images more clearly, which hep to realize the realtime navigation of IGS system efficiently.
