Recently, research on surface plasmon polaritons attracts a great deal of attention and interest. The developments on this field bring in important influence to Nano-optics and the miniaturization of photonics device. In present paper, we studied the theory of coupled-plasmon-resonant waveguide (CPRW) based on surface plasmon polaritons.Firstly, we explain mechanics of guided wave of coupled-plasmon-resonant waveguide for TM mode on theory. We analyze the band structure of evanescent wave in the CPRW by Bloch theory, and discuss the transmission properties of the CPRW with a finite number of periods by transfer matrix method. Also, we utilize the the transmission properties of the CPRW and make the dense wavelength division multiplex and tunable filter of the CPRW.We classify surface plasmon polaritons into two types as TE mode and TM mode by the polatiton manner, and deduce the conditions which the two type polaritons can exist under. We discuss the conditions which surface plasmon polariton along the surfaces of the negative dielectric permittivity materials(NDPM), negative magnetic permeability materials(NMPM) and left hand materials(LHM) can exit under and dispersion relation correspondingly.Based on the theory of coupled-plasmon-resonant waveguide and surface plasmon polaritons, we present two new types of coupled-plasmon-resonant waveguide for TE mode which is made up of negative magnetic permeability materials and left hand materials on theory, and discuss its band structure and guiding property by Bloch theory and transfer matrix method. We make a contrast between the two new types of CPRW and the TM mode of CPRW.
