3D visualization, as a newly developing interdisciplinary and also a hotspot widely focused on the compute science domain, is one of branches of Virtual Reality. As the development of hardware and software technology and its correlations, 3D visualization has the stable foundations including both substance and technology. At present, in application to water conservancy especially in water resources dispatch, it is also actively exploring technology and application research of 3D visualization, expected to reduce the load of project, to simulate and recur the scene of dispatch by 3D visualization, and to provide a macroscopic, vivid and solid demo scene supporting for decision-make.Combination with the demands of transferring water from Yantse River to Taihu Lake (TWYT) in Taihu basin, the thesis is to explore how to utilize 3D visualization technology in the application to water resources dispatch demo. It has briefly presented the background of article selection and the application trend of 3D visualization simulation in water resources dispatch. It also generally described the basic concept, development situation and main technology of 3D visualization. It has detailed introduced 3D visualized topography; terrain and object model rebuilding; collide detection technology and so on. Based on the design demands of 3D dynamic simulation system of TWYT, it has researched some key technology such as data structure and data model in 3D, organization and construction of scene and topographic analysis and so on. It has explored technology and strategy of inquiring and analyzing information in 3D space. In antitype reality, beginning with building the basic frame of OpenGL figure program, it has put emphasis on construction of 3D scenes such as topography, terrain and object in basin; simulated water flow and wave in TWYT dispatch.
