Reheating furnace is an important facility on steel's hot-rolling product line. It provides qualified billets for the hot-rolling process. At the same time reheating furnace is the main energy consumption equipment on hot-rolling line. In order to reduce its energy consumption, a great deal of research work has been done on it, but it is still a hot topic in metallurgy automation industry.Up to now, there are still some tough problems which are not solved on reheating furnace's optimal control. Firstly, the billet's temperature can not be measured online, so it is necessary to precisely establish billet temperature model. Now, there exist a model which was established based on heat exchange theory, but it's not precise enough. Secondly, the parameters of furnace's process to be optimized are not completely considered. Furthermore, some advanced control strategies to be used on furnace control can not be directly used in real process, so we need a similar environment which can simulate the real producing process. Regarding on these problems, this paper gives some research achievements.Firstly, this paper established billet's two dimension temperature distribution model based on heat exchange theory, which can not only ensure calculation precision but also take the calculation efficiency into consideration. This model is the basic of computing furnace's optimal temperature setting value and adjusting setting value online. Secondly, this paper gives a target function which includes furnace's temperature setting value and billet's heating time. On computing of the target function, this paper adopts GA algorithm, which can work out our wanted values accurately and quickly. Thirdly, in order to solve the problem of adjusting furnace's temperature setting value online, this paper gives a PID adjusting strategy which based on the difference between billet's predicted value and wanted value. Last, this paper put forwards reheating furnace's process control simulation platform, including its hardware and software structure. The platform provides a very good simulation environment for reheating furnace research.
