Substrate integrated waveguide is a novel design platform proposed several years ago, which combines the advantages of rectangular waveguide (RW) and microstrip line, demonstrating prosperous application in microwave and millimeter wave integration technology. In this work, three novel components based on SIRW have been designed, including H-plane SIRW 3dB hybrid ring, improved spiral compact resonant microstrip cell (SCMRC), a wide-band SCMRC-SIRW passband filter. The proposed H-plane SIRW 3dB hybrid ring is constructed into substrate and implement the easy connection with the microstrip line with a very simple transition. The advantages of the device include the good isolation between the two output ports, and compact structure as well. The propagation characteristic of the SIRW has been investigated using the analytical MoM, resulting in the width equivalence formula of the SIRW and RW and the leakage coefficient out of the SIRW.Based on the previous work of others, an improved SCMRC structure was proposed and has achieved better performances, such as reflection and stopband width.A novel wideband passband filter has been proposed incorporating the advantages of the SCMRC and SIRW; the resultant filter demonstrates over 70% bandwidth and very compact size.
