The electromagnetic launch (EML) technology has been applied in the fields of electromagnetic aircraft launch system, electromagnetic gun, linear electromagnetic induction pumping units, ramming machine and national defense and industry. The electromagnetic launching device launches its efficient load with electromagnetism force. Nowadays traditional launch technologies can hardly meet people's special demands towards driving apparatus in the aspect of velocity and safety, while the EML technology, which revives only in recent years, casts a new light on the solving above-mentioned problems. Potential and advantageous as it is, EML technology is relatively more complex to be applied than traditional launching technologies. It is very hard to design an applicable electromagnetic launcher merely based on theory analysis because the whole launching process is in a transient state and mutual inductances between the driving coil and the projectile sleeve are always changing with time. To design a coilgun with good launch characteristics, it is necessary to establish a numerical simulation. In this paper, the development and present situation of electromagnetic launching technology in both China and abroad are reviewed and the basic principle of coilgun propulsion technology is introduced firstly. After analyzing the characteristic of driving coil circuit and kinematics, the system model of multi-staged electromagnetic launcher is built and equation-solution is derived. The self and mutual inductances are calculated by Gauss quadratic technique and the gradients of mutual inductance are computed analytically and more accurately. A table is adopted to decrease the computer time dramatically. With Treanor method, the nonlinear simultaneous ordinary differential equations are solved. A...
