Research For Policy-Bas ED Network Management

As one of the significant computer network research areas, network management is always being focused. At present, along with the rapid development in computer networks, more and more new technologies are utilized in it. Based on the network standard protocols and combining their proprietary technologies, different network enterprises have developed many new network equipments and new solutions for network applications. Manufacture-featured equipments make some Differences between the networks of different organizations. Meanwhile Distributional application in computer networks is becoming more and more prevalent. Those factors cause tasks for the network management becoming complex and burden-heavily, the original technologies and patterns for network management have gradually been unable to meet these kinds of change. Under this situation, Policy-based network management was proposed and now becomes a research focus.The main idea of policy-based network management is according to the thought and the will of network administrators, to realize the transformation from proposed manage-rules to equipment configurations, those configurations will be implemented in the management domain finally. Policy-based network management will improve the work of network management efficiently and will reduce the burden of the tasks to network management simultaneously. At present some research institutions have already suggested some kinds of Policy Frameworks as well as the protocols for policy-information exchange, other research institutions are now devote to define the standard for policy description. In the industrial field, some network enterprises have also issued products to support the idea of policy-based management. Those examples show that policy-based network management will be one of the keys to fulfill the future network management tasks.Although many achievements have been made in the research of policy-based network management, there still have some work needed to do in the future.
