Information security has become a subject widely concerned with the development of information technology. Cryptography is the foundation of information security, the traditional cryptography is based on a secret key which is a pseudo-random number with a certain length. Such secret key has some flaws which cannot be conquered, such as the lack of connection with the user, its stolen may bring serious security problem to the system, and so on. Biometric key algorithm can solve these problems well, it strengthens the connection between the user's identity and his cryptographic key through binding the user's unique biometric characteristic with his cryptographic key tightly. Because fingerprint recognition is the leading biometric technology in terms of market share at present, the research on biometric key algorithm based upon fingerprint, i.e., fingerprint key algorithm has a vast market outlook and an important practical value.The dissertation aims to study a fingerprint key algorithm suitable for fingerprint minutiae. So far, the research on fingerprint key algorithm is still at its first stage. Although foreign and domestic researchers have proposed several algorithms, none of those algorithms has a satisfied performance. Therefore, the fingerprint key algorithm is still far from a sophisticated field, and there are many problems in need of solving. The main research work of this dissertation includes:Firstly, a minutiae-based fingerprint recognition algorithm has been studied and realized. Fingerprint key algorithm is closely related to the fingerprint template in use, the research on the minutiae-based fingerprint recognition algorithm is the essential foundation of the research on fingerprint key algorithm suitable for fingerprint minutiae.Secondly, the fuzzy vault algorithm is studied thoroughly in this dissertation. This algorithm is the research foundation of fingerprint key algorithm. Through the analysis, this dissertation proves that fuzzy vault algorithm has a design error, i.e., the use of RS code is wrong in the algorithm.
