The speech compression coding is a foundation of digital communications and multimedias. The IP telephony, the second and the third generation mobile communications are all based on low coding-rate speech compressing. For improving the quality and increasing the capacity of the communication system, better and better capabilities are requested by speech processing system. With the development of speech compression arithmetic,the operation speed of speech processor is need to be up to 10 MIPS(Million Instructions Per Second),so much as 20 MIPS. High-speed and programable DSP(Digital Signal Processing)chip is very applicable to the field of speech signal processing,and processing speech signal with DSP represents the development direction of speech signal processing.In this case,this paper designs and implements the G.721 arithmetic (ADPCM) that is based on TMS320C5402(DSP chip of TI corporation), namely, this design achieves the ADPCM codec with pure software.To realize ADPCM speech compression on the system of DSP,we must understand followings:the creation process and the characteristics of the speech signal, the trait and the design method of the DSP system,and so on.These basic theories are discussed in the first two chapter of this paper.
