With regard to the disadvantages of the existed products for SF6 gas leakage detection and in order to develop a practical, economic and accurate method for such a purpose as soon as possible, the study on the response characteristics of the halogen sensor in low concentration SF6 gas is proposed as well as the concerning of the effects of the environmental temperature and humidity on this kind of sensor. The accumulated data can be applied in the coming projects for analysis of the response rules of sensor to the concentration of SF6 for successful quantitative monitoring.Based on the above idea, a system has been designed and produced. The system is very simple and accessible for use without any particular strict requirements for circumstantial conditions, and is feasible for long reliable operation.With such a system, we have implemented a series of systematic tests for a long period on a number of sensors in the environment with various oxygen and SF6 concentration under different humidity conditions, and a large number of output data from halogen sensors and oxygen concentration sensors corresponding to different environmental temperatures and humidities are acquired for further analyses on response characteristics of such sensors.
