Digital Reference Service (DRS) is a must for College Libraries to improve and innovate their services via internet. It is the continuation, extension and development of the traditional reference service in the internet context. It provides library users with convenient, timely and efficient reference services by applying the internet technological advantages. This thesis discusses the fundamental theoretical and practical issues concerning digital reference service by college libraries. The"theory"part starts with the historical background for the emergence of Digital Reference Service, traces the origin and development of DRS home and abroad, and highlights the differences between DRS and traditional reference service. The"practice"part discusses college libraries'DRS features, problems and developmental tendency, and explores the possibilities of enhancing DRS management and improving DRS quality by training qualified librarians, establishing DRS system, and improving real and live DRS quality. |
