GMPLS is developed from MPLS, which is a inevitable product of MPLS for expanding of the ray-direction stratum. GMPLS can be used as labels to transmit data of time slots, wavelength and optical fiber ports, it can demand the requirements of intelligent light network which adapts to dynamic controlling or transmitting signal by extended signal protocols, routing protocols and new link management protocols, so it can also provide dynamic resources and improve validity of the network.With the further developments of the network; people claim for higher Quality of Service (QoS), especially the survivability of the network. If the end to end path protection is offered to every service, incontrovertibly, the reliability of the network will be improved. But it is at the cost of decreasing the utilization rate of resources and increases possibility of the block of the network. As a result, it can not guarantee the quality of all services. With the rapid development of the network, the network traffic is growing increasingly, and they are paroxysmal and unpredictable. How to manage and control the burst and unexpected traffic load to avoid network congestion is a hops for current researchers. Now Traffic Engineering (TE), which mainly concerns the optimization of network performance, becomes more and more important in Internet researches. It aims to circulate the network efficient and reliable, and at the same time, it optimizes the resources of the network. So it is necessary to consider the integration of TE and path protection to solve the problem of reliability. Therefore, we set out our research work on the problem in this paper.Analyzed the scheme of TE and survivability based on GMPLS, and proposed a new algorithm, which took hops and demands for bandwidth fragment into account to distribute the bandwidth resource for the reaching traffic. Then the algorithm was used in setting up shared protection path, and a new shared path protection algorithm was proposed. At last, a new kind of differentiated service protecting algorithm was proposed, which chose different path protection schemes according to the high reliability service, middle reliability service or the preempt ones.
