The Internet-driven collaborative design, which was grouped, distributed, interactive and cooperative, adapted a new work mode for people in the era of information. It is the certain trend of collaborative design in the future. In the course of Internet-driven collaborative design the problem of communication is still the vital problem which can not be obviated. Communication problem between collaborative clients is the key to solve all the problems in distributed and unlike environment. It is the kernel of Internet-driven collaborative design and is also one of the linchpins of research in collaborative design field. The research in this paper was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, China (Grant No. 50175113) and Special Science Foundation for high school doctor subject of ministry of education (Grant No. 20040611006). Communication platform in Internet-driven collaborative design was researched. The major work described in this paper was as follows.Characteristic of Internet-driven collaborative design and request for Internet communication were analyzed. Limitation of network bottleneck and lack of transaction processing capability, which were produced by traditional Web system based client/server double-deck model and represented by HTTP, was discussed, And distributed three deck model which is Browser/Server system was developed.Middle-ware technology of Internet communication in collaborative design was researched, and superiority reflected by combining CORBA and Java was analyzed. Middle-ware of Java/CORBA based Web was adopted by the system, which made inside interface and realization of communication in collaborative design transparent. It also made technique neutral and stable.Inter-operation between components in collaborative design under different network condition, which was communication with each other, offering sever to each other and accomplishing a complex task together, was researched. CORBA mechanism and characteristic of Java technology were analyzed, and communication system model which was based CORBA and Java was developed. Communication platform of Internet-driven collaborative design was established.Application example of collaborative design based CORBA/Java communication system model was brought forth.
