Antenna is the crucial equipment of the radio application system. Planar antenna has small size, light weight and low profile. Because of all these characteristics, the planar antenna is easily to be integrated with circuits. In recent years, with the great development of manufacture workmanship of the antenna, the planar antenna has become a new star in many applications. This paper focuses on the design of microstrip planar array antenna for satellite broadcast TV reception.This paper presents a series of designing principles and steps which suits the broadband and circularly polarized microstrip antenna of a square with truncated corners through analyzing the circularly polarized (CP) technology and broadband microstrip antenna technology. The simulated results show that the VSWR of antenna is 1.48 at 12GHz, the bandwidth (VSWR<2) is 1.7GHz, the gain is about 8dB, axial ratio (A/R) is 2dB, and axial ratio is less than 3dB in all bandwidth (VSWR<2).Take the broadband and circularly polarized microstrip antenna of a square with truncated corners to constitute 16 elements and 64 elements of the planar antenna arrays. We can constitute the larger planar antenna array through analyzing characteristics of 16 elements and 64 elements array, in order to satisfy an actual need of engineering. We can receive the satellite broadcast TV signal. This planar antenna array is easily fixed on the house or building, for example, which can hang on the outdoors or lanais, also stick on the top of the plane of the roofs, cars or trains. Presently the problem of microstrip planar array antenna for satellite broadcast TV reception is low gain and high feeding loss, so we can use PTFE foam material in order to reduce loss and improve gain of planar array antenna.
