Strategy In International News Communication Of China

International news nowadays has already been a critical component of the soft power system of a country, under the circumstance of the current period when the world becomes more and more globalized with tremendous information. The international news communication of China has the tradition that values propaganda to the outside world; however, it also suffers from the lack of a deep understanding of the concept of international news communication without systematic researches. The journalistic circles of China now face a big challenge due to the low efficiency of international news communication. How to investigate and study the essential characteristics of international news communication so that we can have a strategic reflection on the development of international news communication is the focus of this thesis.This thesis first defines the concept of international news, differentiates it from the concepts of international propaganda and outside communication, and illustrates the three forms of international news. The current status of the five main media carriers in China is then analyzed in detail. This thesis studies the great achievements of China in reporting important international news, as well as these barriers lying ahead such as technical and national support, radiation coverage and public acceptation.After that, we investigate the development strategies for international news of China from the perspective of two essential characteristics of it: newsiness and transculturalness. The newsiness characteristic is analyzed first quantitatively. After a careful analysis and statistics of the data on reports of international news from six main media in China, we come to the conclusion that the international news communication of China has too much political complexion, but with less professionalization. Two strategies are proposed in this thesis to solve this problem: one is to flesh out the free speech system of the Chinese government and build up a multidimensional layout of international news communication; the other is to create a multidirectional balanced coverage of international news.The transculturalness characteristic of international news is analyzed qualitatively. The language barrier existing in the communication of international news is first studied in terms of differences from language alphabets and language contexts, and then the difference on ideologies behind the language of journalism is clearly pointed out.
