With the consistent development and maturation of the technology of next generation network, many countries have attached increasing importance to the technology, and the IPv6 as well as the next generation network industry are enjoying their prosperity in the global scope. To China, developing the next generation network is of great important strategic significance. Network application is one of the important motivations of deploying IPv6, and as successful communication and entertainment platform in the network, the instant messaging is enjoying increasing popularity. However, up to now, there is no instant messaging system based on the IPv6 protocol both home and abroad. Therefore, it could promote the application of the next generation system to design a high-efficient, reliant, and expandable instant messaging platform based on IPv6.The present study analyzed the basic theories of instant messaging, the presence service model, as well as the instant news service model. Meanwhile, it gave a introduction of the system frame and function modules of the already finished single server instant messaging system—IMessager, pointing out the problems regarding processing ability, expandablity, and stability which could emerge in the single server instant messaging system when the task is increasing. The adoption of cluster system is an effective approach to solve the problems of instant messaging of single server. The paper researched into the key technologies of the system cluster of instant messaging based on IPv6, especially the structures of instant messaging cluster and the strategy and arithmetic of load balancing. The major finding of the study spread out as follows:(1) The high adaptability of the heterogeneous instant messaging cluster system was proposed in the paper: the system could provide transparent service to users through cooperation among different sub-systems, and solved the problems of system burden and long responding time caused by large amount of querying information after users are distributed to each messaging server. Moreover, such a system could deal with the system failures in time and efficiently, to guarantee the consistency of the information.(2) Based on the systematical analysis of the load balancing characteristics of the instant messaging, the study proposed a request distribution approach where the...
