With the development of information technologies and the growing requirements for market competing, further demands are thus brought forward for the next generation optical network, which is used for transporting voice and data services. The next generation optical network should hava good intelligent control system and better performance parameters. Also, it should provide more flexible transport means for both voice and data services. In order to meet these requirements, multi-granularity optical switching technology is needed on optical switching layer, and intelligent control system over optical layer. Thus, the combination of ASON and multi-granularity optical technology, that is to say, multi-granularity optical switching system based on ASON architecture, which is the main issue of this dissertation, can meet the evolution requirements of the optical network in a reasonable way.Supported by the 863 Program of China, the main research work completed in this dissertation are listed as follows:1. ASON technology, multi-granularity optical switching technology and the developing requirements of the next generation optical network are summarized. According to the evolution requirements of the next generation optical network, multi-granularity optical switching system based on ASON architecture is proposed, which can be well fit for the requirements of the evolution of optical network.2.
