Research On INTERNET Performance Measuring And Implementation Of Measuring Tool

Since the birth of Internet in 1969, the measuring of Internet performance has not attracted as much recognition as it worthy. On one hand, the complexity of Internet structure and content made it difficult to formulate a unique standard; on the other hand, the rapid update of hardware equipments and enrichment of network protocols seemed able to solve most problems in early days of Internet. However, as more and more applications became popular on Internet, the requirement for network maintenance and configuration turned to be much more important than before, and of course with more complexity. In this case, the research on network performance measuring and study on network structure and performance, has vice importance in discovering the bottleneck of network and optimize the network.After study on current Internet performance measuring theories and methods, we focused on three mainly targets: bandwidth, time delay, as well as packet loss, and investigated some representative tools and their algorithms.
