WLAN is a kind of wireless LAN as the result of combination of computer network and wireless communication technology. To research in WLAN technology, it has profound significance to develop WLAN chip with self IP and products base on it. This dissertation, basing on WT IV, a wireless LAN chipset developed by Beijing LHWT microelectronics technology Ltd which supports all threeIEEE802.11mode, 802.11a/b/g, is focusing on the research of linux device driver and MAC layer software, and provided a complete solution to STA software.First, this dissertation gives a brief introduction to the series of 802.11 standards, analyzing the trend of WLAN technology nowadays, and then, gives the background of this dissertation and the existing problems in this field.A station device belongs to network devices in linux. In this dissertation, comprehensive analysis about how a network device works under linux and mechanism of linux NIC driver have been made firstly, then, according to the division of modules in device driver interface partition, the specific implementation based on WT IV are gibev in detail. An enhanced interrupt mechanism also has been designed and implemented in this section.MAC protocol for WLAN is the essential part in WLAN devices as the interface between PHY layer and LLC layer, and its main function is to provide efficient control to the access of media. Based on IEEE802.11 MAC protocol, this dissertation dose detailed research on infrastructure, fundamental principles and key technologies, which forms the foundation for WLAN system design. On the basis of understanding of protocol, a software protocol stack for WLAN STA is designed. To insure the efficiency of software protocol stack and provide QoS mechanism, a buffer management based on PRI has been implemented in MAC layer...
