In the past 5 or 6 years, VOIP has greatly impacted telecom industry, therefore, in the evolution of telecom NGN, VOIP possesses more negative and passive impressions. Meanwhile, numerous new words and expressions that are familiar with VOIP come into being in telecom area, among which the most commonly used and representative ones are NGN and NGI.As the next generation technique of the construction of the communication network, the NGN and NGI are the focal point that arousing the concern of the communication trade. This paper introduces the background and the conception of the NGN and NGI, NGN architecture standards, and some subsystem functions, such as IP multimedia subsystem, PSTN/ISDN emulation subsystem, puts forward the core techniques and services of the NGN, and probes into the commercial model and service pattern of the NGN. And I also presented the background of NGI and NGN, and then analyzed their differences and development road.
