Research And Implementation Of Gatekeeper In Video Conferencing System Based On H.323 Protocol

With the progress in networking and multimedia technologies, video conferencing technology has been more and more widely applied in the human communications. H.323 protocol provides the architecture of videoconference over packet-switched networks and defines function components of terminals and equipments that support multimedia communications over packet-switched networks, communication procedure and protocols to support audio, video and data communications. Gatekeeper acts as an administrator role in H.323 network, and manages all endpoints and calls located in its zone. Although gatekeeper is a selected component in the system, it is a necessary part in the real videoconference system running on the public network. The author designs and implements the software of gatekeeper based on LAN, according to researching videoconference system based on H.323 recommend protocol.At first, this paper introduces the development of videoconference system, reviews the international standard in this field.
