With the background of practical projects, aiming at cutting problem of space curve in shipbuilding industry, four axis robot system is designed. And it is used to cut the ends of the steel tubes. In theory, the four axis tube-end incisory robot can incise round tubes' ends of any form.The paper has introduced the mechanical structure, the elements and specification of CAN bus is dissertated. With the help of Visual C++, which runs on the platform of MS-Windows, we developed a PC-based and open-featured control program for the robot system. The paper has recommended the calculation methods of space curves in the software design. At the same time, we also developed the general-purpose communication module, which runs on the P80C51 micro-controller. The developing environment that we use is Keil C51.
