As a new communication way, the technique of ultra-wideband (UWB) is becoming an extensive research work, in which data are transferred using non-sinusoidal pulses with very short duration. Compared to general communication, it has many advantages, such as low probabilities of intercept and detection (LPI/D), high transmission rate, low power consumption, robustness to multi-path and low cost. Especially, it dose not need extra frequency spectrum, and can coexist with the existing wireless communication systems at the same frequency band, which makes it attract much attention nowadays when the frequency spectrum resource has become more and more precious.The abilities of correlation and Rake receiver of UWB wireless communication in AWGN and multi-path channel are mainly researched in this thesis. First, we compare the frequently used modulation systems and simulate them. Second, we work over the impact on systematic performance of the excursion of pulse position and analyze theoretically the adopted excursion of pulse position to get minimum error rate in AWGN and multi-path channel. The performance of single-user and multi-users in AWGN channel is also theoretically derived and simulated. The bit error rate expression of multi-users is given, too. And then, we research, simulate and compare the performance of Rake receiver with different reception schemes, combination mode and channel. At last, we put forward a MMSE-Rake receiver with low complexity; the results of simulation prove that it can improve systematic performance obviously in seriously fading channel.
