Ultra-wideband(UWB) system as a new wireless communication technique has received wide attention in recent years. Using non-sinusoidal pulses with very short duration for signal transmission, UWB system is properly applied for urban area and indoors and can coexist with the narrow band systems. It has many advantages such as high transmission rate, low power consumption, good security, robustness to multipath and low cost. So it is generally believed that UWB system is the best resolution to short distance wireless communication and wireless location in the future. This paper firstly introduces the defintion, history, characteristics, application and standardization of UWB communication. Based on which, the functioning principles of UWB wireless communication system and the shape of the UWB pulses and the common used signal modulation technology and the UWB channel model are studied. The paper studies the IEEE 802.15.3a channel model, and the four kinds of channel situations are simulated, analyses the characters of each channel and the influences of the different channel environment on the UWB systems.Secondly, the paper studies the rake receiver technique on UWB system, analyses the performance of the Rake receiver in multipath channel. Simulation and comparison of the different receiving scheme and different combination scheme are given and the influence of the channel on the performance of Rake receiver is also given.Thirdly, the MMSE linear multiuser detection receiver is studied for the single user DS-UWB system. Signal model of the receiver and weights of the filter are derived as well as the performance of the linear multiuser detection receiver. Simulation results show that the linear multiuser detection receiver has batter performance than the SRake receiver in both energy collecting and multipath interference suppression in dense multipath channel.
