Software Defined Radio (SDR) has been identified as one potential method to enhance the flexibility of wireless communication systems. In the past, the operating speed limitation of analog digital converter (ADC) and processing ability limitation of re-configurable chips for signal processing have slowed down the development of SDR for useful commercial application. With recent advances in the semi-conductor processing technology and the development of re-configurable devices such as digital signal processors (DSP) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGA), SDR has now become practical for use in system solutions including wireless LANs, smart antenna and so on.In this paper, I also provide a comprehensive software defined radio hardware platform, which stands for Software Programmable and hardware reconfigurable Architecture, and it is composed by ICS-650 data collection cards and DSP data procession board. I has completed the programming and adjusting work of the data collection cards , which provide the standard interface of API function, and we have completed the four synchronous signals collection work using API function,The circuit board of the data processing part is taken by the DSP6000, and the design of PCI bus of board is taken by professional PCI interface CMOS chip-S5933.The CPLD mainly complete the work of reset, interruption and control and so on. The four synchronous signals of data collection cards are processed by DSP through PCI bus.In order to control an antenna by using software radio techniques and make it have some 'intelligence', we have studied smart antenna techniques based on software radio, and demonstrated the result of DOA estimation based on MUSIC (Multiple Signal Classification) in the platform.
