Informational system of searches of advanced plant and query of plant resources in Xinjiang has been developed in order to identify plant specimen which was made using wild plant. Visual FoxPro6.0 is development environment of the system and the object-oriented design of program was used. Generally identification of plant species consists of two steps. At first family, genus and species of the specimen are made certain by looking up the tool book whose title is Claves Plantarum Xinjiangensis. Then the feature descriptions and the drawings of the species are browsed in such books as flora Xinjiangensis and plant-illustrated book to examine whether the identification of the plant species is correct. This method is applied to plant query in the system. Besides plant searches and query of the plant features, functions of the system include query of the plant resources and edit of the database tables.Design of the database is a very important job during the systemic development because the quality of the database largely determines whether the systemic functions cater to users. As the data of the database are concerned about botany, theory and knowledge relevant to botany is applied to design of the database. This database can reflect knowledge of botany right, which is the fundamental demand of the design of database. Relational modes of the database have been optimized to enhance query efficiency.With the help of OLE(Object Linking and Embedding) technology the files of picture management software(ACDSee) and GIS software(MapInfo) were embedded in and linked to the system, which made the system could display multimedia information.The development of the system is an instructive practice of combining database technology and knowledge of botany.
