Rare earth doped natrium yttrium tungstate (RE:NaY(WO4)2, abbreviated RE:NYW) is a kind of solid laser material which is apt to LD pump. In this paper, researched Nd:NYW and Yb:NYW crystal properties based on raw material processing, growth technology and annealing technology. Crystal lattice structures were analyzed by XRD, IR spectra and Raman spectra, lattice constant were calculated(a= 0.5202nm, c=1.1280nm ), group were analyzed of, and ascription of IR and Raman spectra were analyzed of. Defects were observed and analyzed. Studies relation between unit device tooling and crystal properties, between unit device tooling and crystal quality. The absorption spectrum and fluorescence spectrum of the Nd:NYW and Yb:NYW crystals were obtained, the absorption cross section, emission cross section and other spectrum parameter (Nd:NYW, σa=1.54×10-20cm2e=1.54×10-20cm2, Ω2=12.93×10-20cm2, Ω4=10.23 ×10-20cm26=7.73×10-20cm2;Yb:NYW, σa=3.11×10-20cm2e=1.24× 10-20cm2).The crystal defect was observed and analyzed. Room temperature Nd:NYW crystal samples sized 3x3x5mm and 5x5x5mm were LD pumped at 808nm plane-concave cavity and double-concave cavity laser systems respectively, 1060-1064nm has been demonstrated. The slope efficiency of Nd:NYW laser has been obtained respectively, 2.2% and 34%. Through citing systematical factor of laser properties ( SFL) , Nd:NYW and Yb:NYW had been evaluated systematically and crystal thermal effect was obtained. Thereby the conclusion was summed up that RE:NYW crystal is adapt to middle-low power laser LD pumped by CW operation.
