As the computer and Internet technologies being applied in our societies more widely anddeeply, the amount of information available in the Internet and the distribution of powerfulcomputer system have come to an extreme extend. While the several main search enginesclaimed to collect and organize all the information on this planet, the grid computingcommunity focuses on resource sharing and cooperative working. In this dissertation, we compared and analyzed several technologies relevant to distributedGUI application and grid computing environment, and then basing on the basic ideas behindsthin client computing and grid resource management including the GSML toolkit, we give theGRASP (GRid Application Sharing Platform), a system to share legacy GUI applications ingrid environment.GRASP is an application sharing platform, which is independent of opertating systemsand applications. It focus on the problems about deploying, publishing, locating and remoteusing of legacy GUI applications on heterogeneous platforms in grid environment. The main contributions of this thesis are listed as follows: 1) Designed a new adaptive remote UI update algorithm to make it suitable for wide areadistributed environment, improved the responsivity of remote application UI and thus gotbetter user experience. 2) Implemented application level UI displaying on remote clients. Thus in the view of griduser, there are not abstract computing environments in grid system any more, but only variousapplications which can do some specific works. 3) Implemented dynamic application resource management by modifying and integratingthe VEGA resource router with rfb protocol. Grid user can locate application according to theirparticular requirements.
