This paper discusses passive acoustic sensing technique for target localization.The passive acoustic direction technology makes an important role in modernization and military area.First,this thesis describes the environment of the passive acoustic direction system , discusss the influence to sound field.There are some introductions about the type of microphone,and how to choose it.Three methods of time-delay estimation(TDE) are analyzed.Second,in this paper,two cross arrays are studied:four-element corss array and five-element one.The direction theories of the two arrays are derived,and their direction accuracy is analyzed.At last,position system is designed in this thesisjust as right hardware and software choices, exactitude paremeters choices.We tested our technique using our position system.It was composed of two parts,one was inside room,another was outside.Human voice,alarm whistle and powder explode are the sources of sound.The result almost can satisfy the need of accuracy.
