The Research Of Underwater Acoustic Ad Hoc Networks Of Multiple Autonomous Underwater Vehicles

This paper firstly introduces the developing history of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), then the characteristic of underwater acoustic channel is analyzed, with emphasis on the multi-path propagation characteristic and the limited bandwidth, and the building method and the characteristics of the ad hoc are introduced.And then the modification of the ad hoc build algorithm based on the underwater acoustic (UWA) communications is studied in emphasis in the paper. Some protocols in the data link layer and the network layer of the ad hoc networks are analyzed and compared, and the available protocol is selected and modified for the UWA networks. The network topologies of the UWA networks are also studied.A small UWA model of five node is building in this paper. The automatic repeat request (ARQ) is selected for the data errors detecting, and the MACAW protocol is used in the media access controlling, at the same time the DSDV protocol is considered in the networks routing. Some statistics in estimating the model are studied, and the data of the model simulation is listed.Finally the paper discusses several problems related to UWA networks and summarizes the paper.
