Nowadays the deep-space exploration is becoming a focus of research all over the world and has broad prospects. This paper introduced the servo system in an O-E theodolite which is used to track satellites. The system has the peculiarities of long delay time, big moment inertia, low speed and smooth tracking. In allusion to thedifficulties, some measures described in the paper are as follow.1. In this design, variable parameter technique is adopted, which lead to the steady tracking accuracy of 127" when tracking the optical dynamic target that moves at maximal acceleration 1° /s~2, and realized high tracking precision of 5Hz frame TV.2. By using the technique of spectrum analysis, the frequency resonance can be easily located, which makes the model of system more exect.3. A series of experiments and theories verifies the following facts. For the method of measuring speed by position differential, enlarging the differential step can restrain the high frequency noise, but at the same time increases the delay time and reduces the phase margin, which causes the large overshoot and badly peculiarity of low speed. So the step should be confirmed by different system.
