In recent years, OBS (Optical Burst Switching) that combines the best of OCS and OPS is proposed to meet the increasing demand as it could provide rapid resource allocating and high network usage with relatively low optical technology. An OBS network is composed of the edge nodes and the core nodes, the service access is performed at the edge nodes of the network. The service loads will be categorized according to their destination address and QoS level, and then put into a big Burst, with control frame generated correspondingly. The control frames will be transmitted in the dedicated channel ahead of the data frames and processed at the core nodes of the electrical domain, for the purpose of configuring the all-optical path for the data frames. After this configuration, the data frames can travel through the all-optical pathThe paper is based on the 863 project, "OBS key technologies and experimental system", and provides the design and implement of the core function board and burst packet assembly module of the core function board of the edge nodes, which plays a significant role in the edge nodes.Chapter 1 introduces the idea and the architecture of the OBS, and analysis the key points in designing of the edge node.Chapter 2 indicates the components of the edge node of the OBS Network, and then describes the design of the core board in edge node and the development platform that will be used in the design.Chapter 3 introduces the architecture that used to implement the burst packet assembly function and describe every important sub module by the flow charts.Chapter 4 describe the FPGA implement details of the modules that referred in chapter 3, and then show the actual debug results, at last, propose the improvement method to achieve higher performance.
