During product assembly several dimensions of active requirements of collision detection have to be dealt with. Otherwise, Active Rules of active DBMS are strongly expressive in representing virtual assembly semantics. In domain of this category problem, active Object-Oriented DBMS can perform perfectly. Some researches in this field have been done in this thesis.Firstly, the background, the meaning, the status of the research are introduced.Secondly, with emphasis on collision detection during virtual assembly and virtual assembly semantics the following tasks have been carried out: feature-based product model, assembly model are built up. Assembly feature and handling feature are defined. Assembly semantics are analyzed and abstracted as composing relation, mating relation and depending relation into three categories. Extension of assembly meta-model is proposed. Class hierarchy is built. Active DBMS framework is described. The mechanism of event, condition and action is analyzed. Execution model is described. The main point in this thesis is active rule newly applied in collision detection. In this field active requirement is abstracted; rule model is created; active rules are defined with an example application. Otherwise, another application of assembly semantics extension is proposed with an example. Finally, a conclusion of the work has been made.
