Using theory of spacial spectrum estimation to estimate Direction of Arrival (DOA) of target signals will be one of absolutely necessary technology means in future electron warfare. Along with development of microprocessor technology, the operation speed of DSP chip is continually improving, and the real time of DOA will come true. Especially the real-time realization of MUSIC algorithm will have important practical significance for the development of this field.In the practice setting of the warship, for the limitation of the interspace, the embattling shape of antenna array is required strictly. Whether choosing shape appropriately or not will directly influence precision, bandwidth and range of spectrum. In this paper, universal algorithm of 2-D DOA suit for arbitrary plane antenna arrays is studied. Influence of different factors on estimation performance is analyzed by lots of computer simulations. Synchronously, the technology of virtual array transformation is used to estimate the DOA of coherent signals with arbitrary plane array. Its validity is confirmed by computer simulation. In order to realize the joint estimation of azimuth and pitch angles, a method for estimating 2-D angle-of-arrival of coherent signals with two parallel linear array is used.According to simulation results, an experimental system of direction-finding is designed, including the signal processing part, simulation signal source input interface part, actual signal input interface part, back-end interface part and terminal visual part. Simulation signal data input interface and estimation results output interface are compiled using VB language embedded by MATLAB. The transmission of data is completed via serial port of PC, and the measured, azimuth and pitch angles are transmitted to the back-end location system via serial port of DSP. In the paper, we make a detail expounds of the software and the hardware design and debugging process, and the formation of independent system. Debugging results of hardware and software validate feasibility of the scheme, and advice on how to improve is given.
