Change is a basic character in both software development field and business field. So information systems have to confront challenges from various changes, including changes of business domain and renovation of information technologies. Reconfigurable information systems have the ability of rapidly reconfiguring to adapt themselves to these changes with low cost.In traditional development model, an application system is always developed from bottom, so each application's development needs a lot of repeated work. But domain engineering has changed this model. When the results of domain engineering are used in application engineering, it supplies reusable components during all phases of the application system's development. In this thesis, the domain engineering theory is applied in designing and implementing a RIS. The development process model of Domain-Oriented reconfigurable information system (DORIS) is put forward, which strongly supports the reconfigurable information system's development. A DORIS provides the basic foundation for a group of reconfigurable information systems which have identical or similar requirements. Through creating reusable software components, DORIS supports information system to be reconfigurable.Based on the DORIS development process model, we design and implement a reconfigurable document management system (RDMIS) by using business component development method, UML technology and EJB technology. This RDMIS includes a domain framework, a group of business components and some hot point subsystems. In addition, Advanced Ship Management System (AMOS) of Nanjing Ocean Shipping Company is implemented by using the RDMIS. Some typical reconfigurable cases are also discussed to illuminate and verify the reconfigurable ability of this system.
