The optical fiber's characteristic parameters are important to its application. In this paper, some characteristic parameters of several kinds of optical fibers are studied. It is confirmed by testing that the self-made liquid-core optical fiber (LCOF) can be used as a sensor's sensitive unit. Moreover, Dsp-based software and hardware, which is used in the optical fiber load bearing experiment, is designed for the sake of real-time data processing.This research work mainly may be divided into following several parts:1) The measurement of optical fibers'geometry parameters: a method based upon digital image processing is presented to measure the geometry parameters of optical fibers, which are researched in this paper.2) Experimental study on the optical fibers'carrying capacity: The capabilities of carrying are carried out through a load-added setup. The figures of the output intensity of each fiber vs. displacement of the load-added setup are presented in this paper.3) Monitoring the solidifying process of LCOF synchronously: the short wave length light can solidify the liquid in LCOF. It is important to study on the process of the solidifying of LCOF.4) Damage repair experimental study: test the repair effect of the damaged LCOF.5) The corresponding software and hardware based on DSP is designed to process the datas real-time to simplify the whole work.
