21 century is an information era. With the fast development of network, internet gradually become the media people to gain information and we are familiar with the search engine to search information. However, it is more difficult to search information and absence of quality management. As the representative of network search tool, the efficiency of search engine is not so efficient as people imagined. With the development of network language. XML gradually becomes primary markup language. The extensibility and semi-structure of the markup XML possesses has unique advantage to standardization of homepage project and structure and search improvement.The thesis can be divided into six parts : introduction, theory of modern index method, analysis of network information search tool, change of markup language, XML-based document Index Method and postscript. The structure of the thesis is arranged according to logical thinking of finding, researching and solving problems. The thesis is started with the existent problems of internet information and analyzed the common used search engine. On the study of network language change and standard of homepage language, the thesis analyzed several important XML indexing methods and paid attention to XML change and thoroughly analyzed its character and superiority. To begin with the optimization of index structure, the thesis fully considered semantic information XML tag embodied from the design and organization of index structure. Base on the research above, the thesis tries to improve search effect of internet search tools from structured XML, that is XML can imply meaning of data with structured method.
