The Design And Realization Of UTM Gateway Based On NP Stucture

With the development of network application, the security threats the corporations are facing, not only come from network layer,but also from application layer. Meanwhile, the requirements of network security are also constantly changing, so the users need the security equipments that can resist all kinds of threats.UTM (Unified Threat Management) which integrates many security functions,is capable of withstanding the attacks from network boundary effectively.It can not only protect the entire internal network,but also extend the security mechanism to the remote offices.Through integrating the techonolgy of anti-virus, anti-rubbish e-mail, web filtrating, fire wall,VPN, etc., into a open security platform, it is able to prevent all kinds of known or unknown attacks.Network security equipment always has a contradiction between performance and cost, and high-powered facility mostly adopts ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) to guarantee high throughput. However, the apperance of NP(Network Processor) technology, makes it possible to design the network equipment with higher performance and lower cost. NP has advantages of better capability, more flexible extension, lower cost and shorter developing cycle, etc. The essay is just based on NP hardware platform to design and implement a high performance and low cost UTM security gateway.First, in the essay, the author introduces the meanings, background and the central function of UTM.Second, illustrates in details the typical technologies, merits and the primary modules of them. Then analyses the IPSec protocol which is the core technology in VPN system, the NP technology, and the implementation of IPSec in NP hardware environment. Finally, points out the disadvantages we must try to improve in the future work, and the market foreground of UTM.The essay mainly studies the implementation of UTM based on NP structure,which is advanced problem in network security domain . Now for the immaturity of UTM ,the study can be used in the research and development of UTM product, it also has prodigious practical sense for the populization of the concep and product of UTM.
