3D solid Chinese characters are extensive application in many fields such as titles of film or Tv programs, television advertising , electronic publications, Internet webpages, publication covers and packing and decorating ,etc. And research into the structure of 3D solid Chinese characters and the technology of displaying them constitutes an important part in the studies of computer graphics.Characters in fancy style appearing in the advertising media are not 3D solid Chinese characters in a real sense. There has been little research at home and abroad regarding the displaying of 3D solid Chinese characters. This thesis puts forward a new method of constructing 3D Chinese characters by using 2D Chinese characters for the first time. First, according to the principle of layering by instant shaping , any arbitrary 3D solid Chinese character's stroke is treaded as reduplication of 2D thin layer in height. And the outline of Chinese characters strokes(called basic outline) drawn from level Chinese characters is shown with a group of dispersed data dot sequence. Then, based on the theory of Voronoi, we construct the stereoscopic skeleton of Chinese characters by drawing basic outline's offset and thereby using these lines as outline of other layers. At the same time, the side surfaces of outline are made of trigonometry each. In this way, stereoscopic Chinese character strokes are formed and by combining these strokes, we can get 3D Chinese characters.In this thesis, the construction of the basic outline of 3D Chinese characters based on Voronoi map has many merits such as few data needed in processing, stroke lubricity and quick displaying, which will prove to be a new effective method of displaying 3D Chinese characters. Quite a lot of research has been done into Voronoi theory abroad;however research in this field at home is far from enough. At present, Voronoi has been widely used in machinery processing, CIS and city planning. The application of Voronoi in constructing 3D Chinese characters has important innovative significance.The surface filling of 3D Chinese Characters is based on blend bar interpose technology combined with the technology of OpenGl 3D graphics display. This new approach counteracts weaknesses of the traditional method when characters are self-intersect, defeat writing and surface sunken. This method proves to be a valuable method of displaying 3D Chinese Characters.
